Kelly + AJ
Without a perfect first date, but found the perfect partner in life. Kelly shared with us her lovely love story with AJ, and how he popped the question with a little surprise.
Kelly wore a Hilana gown by Cymbeline Paris, an ultra sexy high-neck gown with a very low back to accentuate the curves of her back. Tulle bodice embroidered with cotton guipure and finished with floral appliques. And the tulle skirt is covered with silk organza ruffles to create volume.
Here are some beautiful photos from Kelly's photographer, the talented team from Smile Designer Photography. To get Kelly's dress, make an appointment with us.
Tell a little bit about you and your partner:
We met at a night club. Our first date didn’t go smoothly. The restaurant we were headed to was closed and then at the cinemas the movie screen was broken and we couldn’t see the movie for the first ten minutes of the film. We both didn’t want an over the top wedding, hence why we chose to get married down south in a relaxing environment. The styling was kept very simple and elegant. We have been together for five years and in that time we have lived in the UK while AJ was playing rugby over there and then travelled Europe for three months before heading home. We’ve since opened our own strength and conditioning gym (Smiths Fitness) which AJ runs and I’ve returned to teaching since arriving home. We adopted a puppy (Thurston) a year ago and he has since destroyed our entire back yard and every bed we’ve ever bought for him. But we couldn’t live without him.
How he/she popped the question?
AJ popped the question on Christmas day in 2014 in front of his family and My Mum. We were having Christmas at his sister’s in Margaret River. AJ gave me a huge box for my present, which (when opened) had lots of little presents inside of it all wrapped up. They were all silly little gifts like toys and knick knacks etc. Then the last present in the huge box was a little box with a note inside saying, “I also got you this…” When I looked up he was down on one knee and proposed. He also said immediately after I said yes, that he hadn’t yet asked my Dad (who was away working). Haha.
What is the most exciting part of the planning?
The most exciting part is definitely shopping for your wedding dress! And putting a deposit down on the venue, because that’s when things are getting real!
How to pick “the” perfect gown?
Picking the perfect gown, try everything! If you don’t try it all you’ll never know whether the ‘ok’ looking dress on the rack actually looks stunning on! You might think you know what you want but the total opposite dress might suit you better. I saw my dress at a bridal expo in a runway show and really liked the back on it (or lack of back), but wasn’t too sure about the high neck. If I hadn’t tried it because of the neck line, I never would have found it was the perfect fit for me! Plus the style I had in mind did not suit me at all.
Favourite memory of the wedding?
I know it sounds corny, but walking down the aisle and seeing my husband smiling back at me.
One tip for those who are planning now
Don’t over think things or stress out, there’s no need for it. Never skimp on the dress or the photographer.
